In the diary – The Swan, Farnborough
The Swan, an exciting new gastropub and the latest string to the TAG Group?s bow, opens to the public today.
The Swan, a brand new gastropub, has opened today, following a full refurbishment, serving guests a menu of high quality, delicious dishes, made using locally sourced British ingredients, in a warm and relaxed, yet modern setting with exposed brick walls, open fires and cosy armchairs.
Occupying a charming building of historical interest, The Swan dates back to the 19th century when it was used to refresh both horses and drivers between Farnborough railway station, the Queen’s Hotel (now the Holiday Inn) and North Camp railway station. Workers of the then newly built Balloon Factory also used to frequent the public house.
Over more recent years, The Swan has become a local landmark within the community, particularly during the biennial Farnborough International Airshow, offering unique views of the air displays.
Owned by the TAG Group and managed by Aviator, the gastropub is located on Farnborough Road, next to the Farnborough Air Sciences Trust Museum (FAST).
Mark Ashton, Aviator?s General Manager, commented on the opening of The Swan.
" I?m delighted to be part of such an exciting project for the Farnborough community. One of the few remaining historic pubs in the area, The Swan has been a popular bolthole for locals for over a century now and we wanted to make sure this remained.
Originally opened in 1861, we?ve chosen to reflect The Swan?s historic past not only in the new logo but in key artwork and photography pieces within the pub too; thanks to local historian Jo Gosney and talented students from the Farnborough 6th Form College.
Refurbishing the interiors and creating a new gastropub concept has been no mean feat. We?ve taken the traditional pub concept and added a modern twist, to everything from the homemade locally sourced food and speciality beers, to the open fires and the bespoke interior designs, creating a gastropub which we hope will be enjoyed by the local community for years to come. "
