Hotels for Plane Spotting in the UK

There is no more incredible thrill for aviation enthusiasts than finding that perfect spot for some serious plane spotting. Modern commercial airport viewing decks offer some great views, but this is often in between flights and time to enjoy is often limited before heading to your gate. To truly enjoy the experience, slow is best, and there is no better location for leisurely plane spotting than a hotel that offers a runway-side seat. Imagine a well-positioned balcony or even a view from your bed to laze away hours with room service and plane views. We’ve created a list of luxurious hotels below that provide stunning views of some of the UK’s most interesting airports. Remember, before you get swept away, check that the room you’re considering definitely provides the view you desire, as most hotels offer both front-row spotting and rooms far from the action.

Aviator, Farnborough

Consider Aviator when you desire style and luxury to enhance your plane spotting. This independent hotel overlooks the private Farnborough Airport, making it the ideal getaway for those taking flights or those wishing to see them come and go. Airside rooms have magnificent views over the runway with clear visibility of private jets ascending and descending, perfect for keen photographers. Aviator is also a must-book for beautiful vistas during the biannual Farnborough Airshow. The hotel has the advantage of being on higher ground than the airport with rooms on floors one to four which provided unrivalled views. This is the ultimate time to while away hours watching planes from your window. At Aviator, there will never be any worry that you will be disturbed by airport noise with insulation and glazing that keeps everything whisper quiet.

Renaissance, London Heathrow

Heathrow is one of the busiest international airports meaning the Renaissance will provide a world-class runway view. Select a stylish room that will give you the ultimate view of the airport’s comings and goings. From many rooms, guests can watch from bed while enjoying free Wi-Fi, 24-hour room service, and stunning runway views in a soundproofed space. Ask for a room on the third floor overlooking the airport for the ultimate sights.

Radisson Blu Hotel, Manchester Airport

Radisson Blu is located directly behind Terminal 2 and is linked to all terminals by an elevated walkway offering stunning views. When selecting your rooms, elect for a higher level floor facing the airport for excellent panoramas of most aprons and runways. Many of the best are Superior Rooms – Runway View. However, if you have something particular in mind, reach out to the venue for advice. Each room offers excellent vantage points for ardent plane spotters.

Bloc Hotel, Gatwick

The newly built hotel occupies a space in the airport’s South Terminal with fantastic views of Gatwick, with room 748 rumoured to have one of the best views. Be sure to book the correct room, as some rooms have no windows at BLOC; however, these are highlighted on the website. It’s best to book a room on a higher level facing the airport (west or south) to gain the best view of Gatwick’s single runway. Enjoy the hotel amenities as you watch the planes go by from your room.
