Founded by gallerists in the 70s, Art Basel has been supporting the role that galleries play in the nurturing of artists, and the development and promotion of visual arts. The anchor of Art Basel is its Galleries sector, where over 200 of the world’s leading galleries of modern and contemporary art present 21st century artwork from over 4,000 artists including paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, prints, photography, video and digital art. Art Basel also hosts a series of conversations and talks on various subjects including, the collection and exhibition of art, understanding art from a geographical and historical perspective, and timely topics concerning the contemporary art scene.
